Register first, then pay using Paypal & s2member pro

looking for any experience or advice setting up s2member pro & paypal standard to support filling the registration form first, then paying. We assume this would create a free subscriber, then promote them after payment.

• Has anyone come up with a strategy to avoid or quarantine spam registrations.?
• we need to keep lapsed memberships, aka free subscribers, in the database, so we do not want to remove them
• Paypal pro is NOT being considered for this question
• there is a slight possibility of using another US based trustworthy payment processor

I would like to have below flow in my site. I am using s2member free version as of now. Can someone help me how I can achieve this? 1) User Registers to site (as level 0 - free subscriber). 2) After registration, user will redirect to payment option page. 3) After success, user will be promoted to level 1. Currently, i am able to set such that user has to pay first and then register from link received in email but I want user to register first and then pay.
