Too Many IP Addresses error message

We are using the Pro version. We have membership levels, and some of our users are repeatedly receiving the “too many IP addresses” error message and we have to reset their account. We have the IP restriction set at 10, which is plenty for one user to access our site on different devices. When we’ve questioned the users, they say they only use at most three devices. So now we’ve started suggesting they change their password, because someone is apparently logging in to their account. Is there another reason this could be happening?

An IP address is not set by the device. It is set by the method by which that device connects to the internet. So someone with a phone or laptop could be allocated many different IPs in one day by the router or phone tower through which it was connecting.

In short, you should not be using this setting at all unless you can guarantee that all your users will be accessing your site only from a limited number of PCs with a fixed location.

Can you confirm from looking in their user profiles that they are being tracked by a different IP? We had an issue where every member signing up was being tracked to the same IP (it was a server config issue, not an s2 issue)

Thanks for the help.
