Sorry for the late reply. I wanted to follow up now because there has been some progress on this.
s2Member now supports PayPal Checkout using PayPal’s current REST APIs and Smart Payment Buttons, and in v260829 I extended that integration to Pro-Forms too.
When PayPal Checkout is enabled, Pro-Forms can use it for payments completed on PayPal’s site instead of the older PayPal Express Checkout integration. Existing Pro-Form shortcodes don’t need to be changed.
PayPal Pro is a separate case, though. It’s still used for the on-site card payment fields, so the current PayPal Checkout integration doesn’t replace that part yet. Modernizing the on-site payment integration is on my to-do list.
