Since PayPal still has issues I need a forms work around

2 years since Paypal messed with the button encryption and S2 was never updated, so we are forced ot use unencrypted buttons. Which have caused hacker issues.
AND s2 was never updated to use PayPal’s new subscription API instead of SOAP.

Since we have s2 member on more than 2 dozen sites, it is not practical to dump s2.

SO I am having members pay outside of s2 for membership.
I need a way to create a form I send members to - on a page in the site - that I can send users to after payment to register them for Level 4 so I don’t have to send them to the default registration form and then manually set their Level to 4.

Such as:
they pay via a normal button (on a page that may not even be on the site)
and get returned to the Level 4 registration form (PayPal’s normal “return to” setting)
then the registration form creates a Level 4 registration for them on the site.

All solutions I have checked - such as using Pro Forms - assumes I am registering them and then sending them to paypal.

All help and suggestions welcome - and of course we are in a time crunch.

Many Thanks!

Sid

Wow I knew s2member forum had gone downhill, but it’s worse than I thought. We are going to have to look for a replacement membership system for our sites. When there is no support, it’s no longer a viable product - just a disaster waiting to happen.

It’s a shame - used to be good software system. Could be a lot more.

I don’t think there’s an easy solution. You’re looking into something really big. But yeah I guess that’s the best way forward. Write a new plugin that bridges new payments with S2.
It shouldn’t be too hard to have the payments created and making sure the IPN calls work with S2 for future payments. As for the user creation create them manually outside of S2 and set the attributes.

I guess some people could program this with 30-40 hours of time.

Hi @deadparrotsoftware…I feel your pain. I spent some time trying to get cohesive cross plugin ecommerce working without requiring code modifications and hit the wall. The serialized user metadata precludes out-of-the-box co-operation with Formidable forms PayPal and EventsManagerPro PayPal. I will be revisiting this issue over the next few months and will post a summary. No promises on a quick solution though. eCommerce coding has become a painful time-sucking coding topic. I still haven’t found a cost-effective alternative to s2member though…they are all either overpriced or have key features missing.

Thank you Tim for anything you can share. We are a small operation and the S2 product meets our budgetary requirements, but like Sid above, we worry about unencrypted buttons. Regards, Roger

Thanks to all of you folks for your information. We have used S2Member for 14 years, but are worried about it’s future. If we need to move on, what are some good choices? There are many more membership plugins now than years ago.
