Set user to PENDING after registration

How do we set a new member to PENDING after registration?
They need to be approved manually by the admin.

That article doesn’t work for me as I am trying to set up a simple members area for a local sports club. All the accounts are free accounts, and the members get access to club information (teams/schedules/results) etc. that are hidden from public view.

There are NO paid accounts or paypal set up.

But of course we have to manually approve each registration to make sure they people who register are actually members of the sports club.

Hmmm - do you have any suggestions?

Right, I understand what you need, but why doesn’t what the article suggests work for that?

You can protect the content at level 1, let the club members register free, they get level 0, you review the account and manually bump it to level 1 if you approve it. Level 0 users won’t get access to level 1 content.

Think of level 0 as “pending approval”, you can even rename it if you want. WP Admin > s2Member > General Options > Membership Levels & Labels
