S2member and Gutenberg

Many people have mentioned concerns about s2member not working with Gutenberg. I have done a few tests and did not run into problems. My tests were not exhaustive.

Have others tested s2member and Gutenberg?

What specific problems or successes have you had?

A number of people have tried s2member with Gutenberg and reported that it works fine.

Hi,
Yes the first tests concerning Gutenberg seem rather good and reassuring. I hope the reality during official update will be as good.
All that remains is to ensure that the payment gateway APIs are maintained and enhanced so that the future of s2Member is also good.
Thanks.

Sonja,

Many iterations ago, GB did not support metaboxes. That was what I reported at the time. Since then, metaboxes seem to have been fixed in the GB plugin. But you assume that they will work when GB is merged into core (which is shortly to happen).

That assumption appears, however, to be false. You can see the mess they are currently in here: https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/pull/8762 and here: https://make.wordpress.org/core/2018/11/07/meta-box-compatibility-flags/

Even if they manage to get that fixed at some point, my guess is it will break again because the underlying architecture of GB is insufficiently robust to enable one set of changes to be made without breaking other stuff. (That’s why moving it from a plugin to core is so problematic.)

What you decide to do about all this is, of course, up to you. My own decision has been to join the team at ClassicPress and avoid having to play roulette.

I do not assume that. I am asking questions.

Please do not project.

When I first set up my S2Member site several years ago, users were strongly cautioned to work only in code view, never in WYSIWYG view, because switching to WYSIWYG would scramble the code in some way. Is this still the case? Is it safe to edit S2Member pages in WYSIWYG with Gutenberg? (I’m currently using Avada theme.)
