Restrict content to users based on registration date

Thanks in advance for any solutions and ideas.

Using shortcodes, would it be possible to allow access to content for users at Level 1 or above, who registered before a specific date?

Is this going to be a temporary or permanent thing? (By that, I don’t mean the date, but the notion that a member of certain longevity will be treated as a level 1 member.)

If it is going to be permanent, you’d be crazy to do this with shortcodes. It would be much easier to manage if you either just upgraded everyone by a simply exporting to CSV, changing role, and re-importing — or else wrote a function to do this programmatically.

Thank you Tim for the reply and the advice.

I’m going to go back to the drawing board and gain a little more clarity about the best way of accomplishing this using your tips.
