Re subscribe using same email and password

On my website I decided not to enable auto renew as my customers said they did not want to do that. My question is…if they attempt to resubscribe before the renewal date they get a message that says ‘email already in use’. If they wait until after the subscription expiry date will they be able to subscribe again using the same email and/or password?

Only if you delete members at expire time - if they remain WP users, they can not subscribe again with same email: WP rule.

I am confused by the answers. On one of my clients systems, the behaviour is:

  • If they login and make a payment before EOT, it just adds another term (year).
  • If they login and make a payment after EOT, it give them a new term (year).
  • They are set to demote to free subscriber after EOT

Perhaps we have different settings or I misunderstood the conversation?

After re-reading @philipthomas ’ problem statement, I think the difference may be that my client tells the members they have to login to renew.
