Protecting PDFs

We have hundreds of PDF files currently in our media library we would like protected from being accessed by anyone who is not a member of the site. Currently the restriction is simply on the media category attributed to those pdf files, and this keeps non-members from seeing the files just fine and we would like to find a more comprehensive security measure here. How do we do this?

We have tried restricting via URI and that did not appear to work, nor did restricting via media category. The files were still accessible if someone copied the link and pasted it into another browser in which the member was not logged in.

Thanks.

Hi,
Please read all the section s2Member->Download Options of s2Member plugin and you’ll find all about files protections with this plugin.
If you don’t unerstand this section, you will can return here for explications.
Thanks.

We’ve tried understanding that section, but it seems we aren’t having luck. Everything we have tried so far (explained above) has not yielded the results we seek. What specific things would need to be done to protect the PDFs this way?

We are using SOLR to index and create searchable PDFs on the site. SOLR requires all files to be uploaded to the Media Library directory in order to properly be indexed and searchable. How can we protect files in the Media Library?

Hi,
I don’t know possibilities of file protection in the media library … Maybe there is a plugin for that?
Sorry to be unable to help anymore.

SOLR needs the PDFs there because that makes them public. s2Member needs them somewhere else in order to make them private. You are trying to do two things that are mutually exclusive.
