Paypal terminology for API Settings

So I am looking at S2Member and it asks for the API username, password, and signature. But if I look in PayPal it doesn’t have these terms. For REST API’s they have account, client id, and secret. Are these the same terminology or am I just missing something.

Thanks for any help,

Erik

I haven’t looked at the PayPal interface in a while, and they keep changing it. Here’s a video I made a while ago, but it may not look like that for you… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvZxEQjezfY&list=PL8gPolqFnYqsPh9Y0TCjvwLkKuby29SYg&index=1

Here’s a page from PayPal explaining how to get the credentials: https://developer.paypal.com/docs/classic/api/apiCredentials/#api-signatures

Since PayPal shows different interfaces to its users, it’s hard to know exactly what you’re looking at. If you still need help, please show me screenshots of the pages you see when trying to follow the setup (hiding any sensitive information, of course).

I hope that helps.

Thanks, Cristián, that did help. I was looking the wrong API credentials - needed the SOAP versions. With that I was able to make a test charge to the sandbox. Still not totally there as the return doesn’t work, but a good start.

I switched to using Stripe and had a test up and running in 20 minutes. So thinking I will start with Stripe and get that working first before I go back to the complexity of PayPal.

Thanks again,

Erik

That’s great! Thanks for the update.

Hello.
I have a similar issue setting up my s2member to Paypal. Paypal’s new interface is making it difficult to find the
API information (username, password, and signature) that s2member is looking for

The SOAP API Screen in the Paypal developer dashboard includes
Paypal account
Client ID
Secret

Do these Ids correspond to what s2member is asking for? Where else can I find the API credential s2member is looking for?

Hi Shahryar.

You’d use the API Signature. Here’s a link to the page: https://www.paypal.com/businessprofile/mytools/apiaccess/firstparty
