Paypal return page is sales page, not page I want

I’m testing out a new site, not yet live. Checkout is ok, but when it returns me to site, it’s to the page where the buy button is, not the page I’ve (attempted to) designate as a return page.

hosting is SiteGround.
S2member PRO
Paypal business
Theme is OP2
SSL - I do have a checklist to go thru for that.

Any thoughts?

Patricia,

This is not a direct answer to your question but, honestly, is there a pressing reason for using PayPal?

I have been active on the WP and s2Member forums for over two years now, and I’ve seen tons of problems caused by PayPal but almost zero caused by Stripe. (In fact, the only one caused by Stripe is that it doesn’t allow recurring subscriptions where the time between payments is longer than a year.)

Since I believe you are in the US, my advice would be to do yourself a favor and use Stripe instead. (I made that switch and I am so glad that I did.)

Thanks, Tim.

Other than I’m set up there, and not at Stripe, not really. Although I know at Paypal I can get a live human if I need one.

What benefits have you seen at stripe?

The benefits are many:

  1. Users never leave your site to pay. It all happens on your site, so there are no redirection issues like the one you’re currently dealing with (and which is a regular problem with PayPal).

  2. Because of (1), it’s much easier to style the checkout (if you want to do so) to match the rest of your site, so everything looks seamless.

  3. Stripe is much more robust and stable than PayPal, which keeps changing its API and causing problems to everyone.

  4. Stripe’s policy both on paying sellers and on dealing with other issues is much better than PayPal’s. PayPal reserves the right to withhold all your money at any time for any reason (and it has done that many times to many people). Stripe does not.

  5. Stripe charges no monthly fee.

Just as an add on to what Tim said, Stripe is amazing and it literally takes 5 minutes to set up on their end.
