PayPal Checkout setup issue (maybe)

Hi everyone,

I updated my s2Member and Pro versions to 261017, and setup PayPal Checkout.

On my site’s sign-up form, the PayPal button now opens a fancy PayPal box giving people various payment options, so that’s working.

But I noticed that the old Visa and Mastercard options in my sign-up form (the form uses “accept=paypal, visa, mastercard”) are still processing those credit card payments using PayPal’s old Website Payment Pro.

Is that correct? I was assuming all payments would be processed via PayPal Checkout, but I could be wrong. Just wanted to check. Thanks.

Edit: I deleted visa and mastercard from the “accept” field and now the sign-up form shows only the PayPal button. So that removed the old Website Payment Pro system from the form, but won’t that confuse visitors into thinking they can only pay with their PayPal account? PayPal Checkout does give the option to pay with a debit or credit card, but the option only appears after someone clicks the PayPal button.

Yes, what you’re seeing is expected. The accept attribute determines which payment options appear on the form, while accept_via_paypal determines which of those options are processed through PayPal’s checkout instead of directly through Website Payments Pro.

So with accept="paypal, visa, mastercard", the PayPal option uses the new PayPal Checkout integration, while Visa and Mastercard still use Website Payments Pro by default.

Good point! If you only want to use PayPal Checkout, I’d recommend keeping accept="paypal".

For Buy Now purchases, PayPal Checkout may also offer payment by debit or credit card without requiring a PayPal account. However, PayPal decides whether to offer that option based on the customer and other factors.

For recurring subscriptions, it’s different. PayPal generally requires customers to use a PayPal account to authorize recurring payments.

So it depends on what you’re selling and whether you want to support subscriptions paid directly by credit card without a PayPal account.

If you tell me whether your form is for Buy Now purchases or recurring subscriptions, and if you have the recurring payments option in your Website Payments Pro account, I can advise you on the best configuration.
