New User Registrations Require Activation

Hi,

Is it possible to configure s2Member to force new user registrations to click on an ‘account activation’ or ‘verification’ link in their email after signing up?

I’ve scoured the setttings for anything that appears to relate to this but I must be stupid and just missing something.

Does s2Member have this capability and how do I enable/configure it?

Thanks in advance.

Why do you want this? Accounts are activated automatically.

Hi Tim,

Because many of my users use temp, wrong or trash emails to setup their accounts. I’d like to ensure that all email addresses used or signups are verified.

Thanks

You have several options then.

One is to blacklist certain email domains. Another is to protect all content at level 1 or above so that new users can’t access it until you have approved them (i.e. promoted them from level 0). Or you can just have them be unable to set their password at registration, so they have to do that afterwards. There are probably other alternatives too.

What I forgot to mention is that when they sign up for an account they are also subscribing to the mailing list. Having them verify their account would be the double opt in. Once verified I would then import their details into my mailing list system. Or is there a better way to handle double opt ins at signup?

Thanks in advance.

What are you using for the mailing list? Mailchimp? See this: https://wordpress.org/plugins/kc-s2mmc/

No, I just switched from Sendgrid to Sendinblue

There’s no integration out of the box for that. Take a look here: https://s2member.com/kb-article/does-s2member-integrate-w-mailing-list-services-like-mailchimp/

Yeah so that won’t work for me. Maybe I could use the auto password function but that still doesn’t require authentication. Is there no extension that expands on the account creation options?

Not that I’m aware of. You really need someone to build you a bespoke extension. Zapier integration would also get you there. There has been a fair bit of talk about the latter, but no-one has built it yet.

I am sure @krumch would build you want you need if you can agree a price.

Bespoke extensions worry me. It might possibly need tweaking every time there is an update of s2member. I may have to rethink this but thanks for your thoughts Tim.

Not if it’s built by Krum. He’s been building them for years and he made the plugin to which I referred earlier. And s2Member updates don’t lurch from pillar to post anyway (unlike some other plugins I could mention).
