Max failed logins. Please wait 30 minutes

I woke up this morning and tried to enter and got “Mas failed logins. Please wait 30 minutes”.
I’m able to get into the site now but have some questions.
1.) What caused this ?
2.) How do I prevent it from happening again ?

Someone may have tried to access your account. This restriction protected your site, not letting them keep trying.

You can have a second admin account only to login and reset the restriction when it happens.

It would be good that your admin usernames are not known, so they can’t try accessing them.
