Issue: New member showing as expired

I am wondering if anyone has ever seen this happen before.

A user registered on the site, signed up for a new membership, the membership was authorized by Authorize.Net (we have her payment confirmation) but the website shows her as expired and her user record seems incomplete.

Any ideas what might have happened? Lost connection between Authorize and the website?
