Free Subscriber Spam - How do I disable so I stop getting hundreds of false accounts?

I’ve been getting about a hundred free subscriber account setups a week. I haven’t even launched my tool which I plan to sell via s2Member. I haven’t finished the setup process.

Yet, I have to delete at least a hundred or more accounts a week and they are all spam.

Please help me disable the free subscriber account option so this stops.

Thank you.

Are you using an s2Member Pro registration form?

Have you set up Captcha or reCaptcha with your registration form? I also recommend a plugin such as iThemes Security which can check a database of known “bad actors” by both IP address and domain name.

When I log in to Wordpress, I believe it is using an s2Member registration form. I’m not sure how I ended up with that, or if it was optional. Is this what you are referring to? Can I turn it off?

Hopefully, I got it worked out. There is an “Open Registration” option which I had activated. I turned it off so I’m hoping this puts a stop to it. Thank you for your help. I couldn’t figure out how to add a Captcha to the form.

Cloudflare is free and will help. Especially if you set the security level to “high”. It can take some research and setting up but it is really worth it.

They will filters a lot of spammers out as they are tracking them.

Free, yes, but help? Not in my experience. And it’s a real PITA to manage. Thankfully, not all CDN providers are the same!

If you want to allow Open Registration in future, I would suggest using the default WordPress registration form and not the s2Member one. Then you can use the plugin WPBruiser with it, and that should provide all the security you need.

Why? S2 has good anti-bot features.

Sometimes I get somebody who was clearly going to spam but doesnt because they know it isnt going to be viable. I just suspend their account. Job done.

It’s always amusing when someone concludes with a statement like that when they have just described a process that takes more steps and more effort than the alternative.

For me there was no more steps.
