I’m using what they call the “Framework”, the free plug-in, included with the Real Estate theme, from theDesignThemes team.

I’m trying NOT to have to pay $89 of the Pro upgrade (what can I say, I’m cheap!), if I don’t have to. I thought I could just bypass the whole PayPal piece, going straight from “Register” to “get password” to use as a “Subscriber.”

But the part of getting the password by email hasn’t worked. Where is that dropping? Or does it require PayPal or the Pro version?

If the only way to run this free is with the upgrade, let me know, if that REALLY will do what I need it to.

You don’t need the Pro upgrade to run s2Member if all access will be free. But you don’t give much information about what you have done, so it’s difficult to know where your problem lies.

Hi Tim, thanks for the quick reply.
Not sure where to start of “what I’ve done.” S2 has a lot of settings. When someone clicks LOGIN, it takes them to a screen with login or Register, with minimal information required. When they fill that it, it says, they will receive an email with a password (or to select a password?). That email never happens.

Everyone is a “Subscriber” at 0 level. There’s no cost to post properties at all.

What else do you need to know? There’s no PayPal involved, and I’m concerned that’s where the “send password” trigger happens. If there are specific settings I need to make, let me know.

If it helps, you can check out vacationvillas.com, and try to register there.

I appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Brian

Brian,

You said:

WordPress no longer sends out confirmation emails when you set the password at registration, so there’ll be no notification unless you are using a third-party plugin to send out these emails. PayPal is never involved in the registration process: only in the payment process.

Are any notifications being sent out? If not, please take a look at this s2Member KBA: Troubleshooting Email Delivery Problems

I hope this helps.

Brian,

Just a couple of things to add to what Pat has said:

  1. What have you set in General Options -> Email Configuration?
  2. If there’s a problem with your site sending out emails, I wouldn’t use the plugin recommended in the KB article, but would strongly suggest the Postman SMTP plugin instead.

Tim: You’re the best! I just reset the email addresses, to be sure the domains matched the website (vactionvillas.com) and the password notification worked. I didn’t need to add any plug-ins.

Thanks SO much for the assist. Seemed so simple, but so frustrating when it didn’t work.

All the Best!
Brian

Just when I thought I was all done, I found that my new user doesn’t have permission to add photos. See the attached screen grab from within the MEDIA area.

I’m assuming something within RESTRICTIONS in S2 isn’t set properly, but I don’t see anything that grants permission to upload pictures. I do have a CAPABILITIES plug-in in my Users area, but that doesn’t mention uploading media.

Can you share some wisdom with me, Tim?

Thanks!
Brian

SORRY, Tim. “Never Mind” I found another place which lets me upload Media, at the top of the page, as opposed to the “Add Media” button that’s at the bottom, next to the Description field. It’s this latter one that doesn’t let me upload, but the one at the TOP does. Thanks
Brian

Glad you’ve got it all sorted out, Brian!
