Few questions re s2Member

Hi

am new to s2Member and have a couple of questions:-

re setting up Paypal options - and API username password and signature - in Paypal do i select Pre built payment solution or paypal check out idk integration or nap/soap API integration please? am assuming its the latter but need to confirm?

We have an existing (hand done) membership database which gives users a member number - is there a way to import this data (name email member number etc) into s2Member and then start to give out membership numbers from the last number we manually used? I would assume i need to add all the fields we currently maintain into s2Member…and in the membership levels just use one option if possible as its a set fee at $25 per year?

With each member registered with a unique membership number, they then are able to register their dogs and get membership numbers for their dogs - again is there a way i can do this with s2Member and be able to import this data and start giving out dog membership numbers from our last manually assigned number? So a member might in 3 months time want to add a new dog and in 10 months time add another dog - is this possible to do with s2Member please and how do i handle this in the membership levels and elsewhere?

thanks for any help
Sue

As to importing user data, see this: https://s2member.com/kb-article/importingupdating-users/

As for one person managing several sub-accounts, then I think you’d need this: http://krumch.com/2013/07/09/kc-groups-management/

thanks Tim for the info - will take a look

just checking do i need a dedicated paypal account to use s2member?
I am setting up the website payment preferences auto return for website payments - but the paypal account is used for other payments from another website only so how can i add the specific return URL?
Sue

i have watched some videos on setting this up but am still struggling and wondering if this is the right software for what i need to do - i don’t want to restrict content but just want to have 1 level of registration for humans and then they can register 1 or more dogs (again 1 price per dog) - the dog rego is a one off fee and the human rego will be renewed each year. I have an existing database showing name/ email/ address/ ph number/ dogs name/ dog breed/ member rego number/ dog 1 rego number/ dog 2 rego number etc . I just want to be able to import the data i have and start giving out rego numbers for humans and dogs from the next increment…so just want to send out renewals each year and also allow users to login to review their account and register any new dogs

can anyone please point me to a simple video for this sort of set up ?
thanks
Sue

If you don’t want to restrict content, what is the reason for asking people to pay?

You see, if you aren’t taking money, then, from the rest of what you’ve said, s2Member is almost certainly overkill for what you want.

But, if you are taking money, then you need to make it clearer how you want your site to work so that we can give you a better idea of how to set it up.

i am asking people to pay for 1 yearly membership - which then allows them to enter trials that we hold - there is no additional content they can view. People have to be members to run in our trials

They would be paying a yearly membership fee - any dogs they register will be paid for once only. I wanted the software to email reminders when to pay their membership fees. I wanted the ability for a user to login and check which dogs they have registered and also view which trials they entered and passed or failed (on line events and membership software would be good)

does that make sense Tim thanks

OK, just to be clear, Sue, do your members pay once per year irrespective of the number of dogs, or once per year per dog?

the human membership is once per year
every dog they register they pay a fee for that dog which lasts the lifetime of the dog…

Sue, in that case, I don’t think a membership plugin – ANY membership plugin – is really appropriate for your needs. All your membership stuff is really taking place offline. You just need a method of selling a subscription.

I would suggest that either WooCommerce or Easy Digital Downloads would work better for you. They can both be configured to enable the download of a registration certificate, and you can use some sort of bundling to make sure that whoever buys a dog registration also has a membership for themselves.

ok thanks Tim - i thought i needed a membership plugin if i want people to be able to login and check the status of their membership and what dogs are registered etc - i will look around to see if i can find something which does this and on line events.

Oh, so you do have online stuff just for members. In that case, I’d suggest EDD with this: https://foxland.fi/downloads/edd-members/

I haven’t tried that particular plugin but I do use themes by that developer and they are outstanding. I believe that he originally charged for the plugin, but it now seems to be free. It has nothing like the power of s2Member, but it seems to be much more like what you are looking for.

thanks Tim - sorry i haven’t explained myself clearly

currently we maintain 2 excel sheets with human and canine details in - renewals are done manually and users have nowhere to login to check what dogs they have registered etc. They have to be registered to enter trials.

so what i had planned to do was somehow import all current users and dogs info into something ? on line and have a login screen for all members so they could login in and just see their details and dogs registered etc

i also wanted to offer entering the trials on line and then somehow link back to the membership software so that if a person entered a trial it would be there on their login details so they had a record of trials entered…

appreciate your help thanks
Sue

Sue, In that case, I’d suggest looking at sports teams or sports leagues plugins.

Thanks Tim will look into sports team plugins

appreciate your help
