Cron Jobs Seem to be running always

Good morning,

I’m using WP Crontrol to see what is happening with the Comet cache Cron jobs.

And what I’m seeing is a bit strange at least I cannot explain it. Hopefully you can.

I’ve set the cache cleanup to happen daily and have activated the AutoCache engine so that runs every 15 minutes. But whenever I look into the Cron job dashboard it seems that both jobs are continuously running or about to run.

See the following images:

While all the other Cron jobs with similar schedules behave normally, the Comet cache Cron jobs do not in my opinion.

Can you clarify please?

Sounds like the WP Crons may have become corrupted in some way. I recommend backing up your settings (Comet Cache → Plugin Options → Import/Export Options), then disabling Plugin Deletion Safeguards so that deleting the plugin also cleans the database of all Comet Cache data (Comet Cache → Plugin Options → Plugin Deletion Safeguards), then deactivate and delete Comet Cache in Dashboard → Plugins.

With Plugin Deletion Safeguards disabled, everything related to Comet Cache will be cleaned out of the database.

Then you can reinstall Comet Cache and see if you’re still having trouble with those WP Cron jobs.

Hi Raam,

Seems like it. I will check and test and get back to you if this worked for me or not.

Thanks anyhow for your good support.

Greets,

Olaf

Hi Raam,

I did what you said and cleaned and reinstalled everything but unfortunately the Crons still behave the same.

This site has recently been copied from a development environment earlier. Might that have something to do with it? Although the other crons run just fine.

You can see the behavior here: https://www.sneakerwijzer.nl/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Comet-Cache-Crons.mp4

In WP Crontrol it starts always of with 1 minute for both processes although one has a 15 minutes and the other a 1 day interval. Then after refreshing it seems to start running but after that it refreshes back to 1 minute??

Very strange. I can give you admin access if you like to see for yourself?

Greets,
Olaf

I have the exact same problem. I also did the reinstall procedure, but it didn’t work.

In my case, it seems that manually clearing the cache triggers this behavior, and after some time - sometimes between 30 to 60 minutes, sometimes (like today) it takes longer - it will go back to a 15-minute auto-cache interval.

BTW, maybe this bug is related:

cron_zencache_cleanup never executing!

Hi Peter,

Thanks for chipping in. That to me sounds like exactly the same issue, I mean the one you are having and the one in the old former Zencache system.

I have offered Raam the opportunity to take a look in my system to see for himself.

In fact I use manual cache clearing also regularly, since I’m in the process of refining my website. So that could actually have triggered it in my case as well. I hope there will come a solution for this since it is bothering my whole import and cache process.

In my case I’ve never seen, i.e. since I have been looking with WP Crontrol, the normal behavior. Both processes the AutoCache and the cleaning always start off with a 1 minute schedule. But they never seem to process. Help wanted!

Hi Olaf!

You might also have a look at the auto cache log file. You can find it at /home/username/public_html/wp-content/cache/comet-cache/cache or something similar.

Thx.

This works for me, see https://github.com/websharks/comet-cache/issues/653

@ogessel Please open a ticket here and send me temporary admin access to the affected site: https://cometcache.com/support/ Just mention my name and a link to this forum post in your ticket so that it makes its way to me. Thanks!

Hi Raam,

Created the ticket with 3 days access. Good luck!

Olaf

@ogessel I replied to your ticket, but I’m copying my response here for the benefit of others:

I logged in and took a look at the WP Crontrol events list; I’m not seeing any problem. The Comet Cache cron’s appear to be working as expected. They are not “always running”. Instead, they are counting down properly, executing, and then restarting. Please see attached screenshots.

That’s what they do in my case, too. The problem is they are restarting with a countdown of 1 minute instead of 15 minutes (auto cache) or 1 hour (cache cleanup). So it seems they’re always running.

Hi guys,

@raamdev

It seems that you did not watch long enough

I understand that it looks like it’s working, but if you would have refreshed one or two more times after when they seem to be running, you would’ve seen that they restart with a countdown of a 1 minute all over again.

To give you an integral view of what is happening, I’ve made this video: https://www.goedkopeadidassneakers.nl/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/CometCacheCron.mp4

You can see what you so yourself until the Crons seem to be running. After that, it seems to be normal because one is rescheduled in 15 minutes and the other one in my case in one day.

But after 30 seconds and a new refresh, you see that they are both rescheduled to start in 1 minute all over again. Further than that the AutoCache is absolutely not running when it seems to be. It does run sometimes, but I can’t figure out when or why. This I have verified in the back-end where no cached files were being made.

I hope this will help!

Greetings, Olaf

@ogessel I did watch long enough. I’m still not able to reproduce what you’re seeing.

Here are two videos, both showing the countdown get to (now) and then reset to the expected time.
