Coupon code without Pro-Form?

I know that one can use coupon code with Pro-forms. Is there any (simple) workaround to also apply coupons/discounts without pro-form? I just find that Pro-forms are a bit of a pain as existing members HAVE to log in so filling the form will associate the purchase to the right account, while new members can just fill it as is. Buttons don’t require logging and such, so it would be so much simpler.

Any way to do it with a button?

Coupon codes are a feature of the Pro-forms only and not the s2Member generated [payment gateway] buttons.

If your concern is the filling out process for your members, you could use Specific Post/Page (Buy Now) buttons. Then set it up such that price on the generated button shortcode is already discounted, i.e. user is not required to enter the coupon code as it is already a discounted price.

Well, your suggestion would defeat the purpose of having coupons given to certain people (ex: newsletter subscribers) or special discounts for other groups.

I have brought up to Jason the fact that using the pro-form is really a PITA as the system does not recognize whether someone is already a member, if they happen to fill the form while logged out, and it does not associate the purchase to the correct user. That is why i would prefer not to use them: i have to rely on the registered users to log in to fill out the same form others would fill from scratch for the same result.

I was hoping there was a way to add a coupon code to a button, but i guess it was never added as an option.

How is it that you expect any program to associate a purchase with the correct user if they are not logged in and they do not fill out a form with their user information?

Not all features of s2Member Pro are included in the free version for obvious reasons: who would buy it if everything were free?

I have an online store, using zencart and it can manage that; once a purchase is to be made, it asks to log in, so it can double check. In S2M, it does not take it into consideration and requires the customer to know they have to log in BEFORE they fill out the form. So, having to rely on the customer to know what to do, when they have a form right in front of their eye to fill BUT they should go log in first and then come back, is NOT intuitive to all which is why i would offer that suggestion.

I have explained that inconvenience in details to Jason and he agreed that it could be improved. As far as a coupon with a button, maybe a popup could be added to the button to enter a coupon code, OR have a matching button saying “do you have a coupon code?” that the user could click to get a popup. Something like that. I am not a programmer, but a user, and i see a need as a user. I just rely on the programmer to see how to improve the product.

Ah, you don’t want the Member to not have to log in, just don’t want them to have to log in before they fill out the form. Gotcha.

Exactly because then, i have to rely on the visitor to log in for my end of the transaction to work smoothly.

Hmmm, coming a little late to the party on this one…but Carole is right.

It defeats the entire purpose of the discount to begin with.

Quite honestly the user shouldn’t have to enter anything at all. The discount should be automagically applied in either a button or a form IF a discount is present and applied for that product, or that page/post. Realistically when we’re generating product pricing the should be a discount code that should be added to the button or form so that it autocomputes that discount.

Miles.

Kristine,

I am curious how you would enable your suggestion.

a step by step would be helpful here…
