Coupon code "uses" figures are erratic and inaccurate

Hey guys,

We’re just starting to have enough coupon code data to actually look at and work with. The on-site figures in the “uses” column of the coupon codes list seemed a little askew for one or two codes, so I did some digging.

Exporting a CSV of user data and Finding the codes in there, the figures seem to be different to the ones on the s2M “uses” counter. Sometimes they’re off by a few (one code for example had 137 on the CSV but 134 on the site) and sometimes they’re off by a lot (another code has 151 uses on CSV but only 24 on site). Another shows 45 uses on the spreadsheet, 19 on the site. You get the idea!

I see that it’s possible for admin to manually enter figures into the “uses” column but I’m quite sure that hasn’t happened here. Just wondering if this has been brought up before or if anyone can point me in the right direction to go a ways to resolving it. For now we’re trusting the CSV data but it would be nice for the less-tech-savvy client to be able to refer to the s2M Coupon Codes page and get a trustworthy figure.

Thanks!

I honestly haven’t reviewed coupon usage data in any detail. You might want to put together some detailed corroborating data and open an issue on GitHub.

Thanks Pat. Do you have any advice as to what would be good info to include?

I can’t exactly replicate the problem with all plugins disabled as the issue can only really come to be in a real-world situation with users accessing codes etc…

If the devs happen across this: what is the purpose of allowing admins to alter and save the ‘uses’ figures for coupon codes? I’m now wondering if perhaps the client left that tab open for days on end and then added new codes to ‘save changes’ inadvertently resetting the ‘uses’ figures for every other code. I don’t think this would have happened but it certainly may happen to someone in the future!

Any advice here appreciated!

Tom,

I was thinking along the lines of including the data from the CSV vs what is showing in the Uses column. Just being as specific as possible, in other words.

Have you seen that happen on your site? I know it hasn’t happened on any that I’ve noticed. I have a few sites with a multitude of Coupon Codes and that column does not change when you save a new coupon. The client would have to actually edit the column to save a change there.

Thanks for the clarification Pat.

I haven’t seen it happen as I tend to be careful to be quick on that page, but if you do need to physically click on and edit the figures to make changes then we can safely rule that one out.

Will look a little further and see how I go.
