Confused if S2 will work for my purpose

I’m sorry if this has already been answered but using search for such a general question is a nightmare. Hopefully you all won’t be ticked off at me for asking.

I read the documentation to be one where the customer selects their membership level, but I want to use it another way. I have a product that has an upsell. My thoughts are that when they purchase the 1st product they would be a level 1 member, and if they also purchase the 2nd product then they move up to a level 2 member. I also want to sell relating products, like videos or ebooks, and somehow add that product to the customer that purchased them.

Is any of this workable with S2 and what would be a good way to approach it if it is workable? Like is it possible to set up a product as being a level whatever product and then is it possible for the customer to have multiple levels? Or any other ideas people have about this.

Also I have Pro.

I’m sorry about not being able to visualize this correctly, and thanks for reading and even more thanks if you reply!

Jan,

I think you’ll find that this isn’t one of those forums where we jump all over people for not using the Search feature.

On purchasing Product #1 (Level 1) and then purchasing Product #2 (Level 2), that’s easy to do. You’d use a Membership Level shortcode for the first and a Billing Modification shortcode for the second. Then you could use Custom Capabilities to sell access to the related products.[quote=“jbattin, post:1, topic:1485”]

A Member cannot have multiple Levels, but what you described earlier can be accomplished using the methods described above.

Thanks for the information.

All of this is a little confusing to me. So instead of the Membership Options Page, can I have a sales page and then use the one time offer page on their 1st and 2nd login?

Then I’m confused about how I would deal with the add on items such as ebooks. I’m assuming that I could create posts for those, but how do I deal with a buy button. These items would not change their membership level but would just add the capability assigned to that product to that customer?? I’m just trying hard to get the clear vision in my head of how this will work. Once I do, I will be on my way.

Thanks for the help.

No, you must have a Membership Options Page. On that page you can have links to various sales pages if you wish. s2Member restricts access by directing people without access to specific content to the MOP. It must exist.

If you are selling ebooks, you would naturally need a Page where this ebook resides. Restrict that Page with a Custom Capability and use a Buy Now (Custom Capability) shortcode to sell access to that Page. Just a note, the folks here won’t get mad if you don’t use or can’t find what you need using Search, but we are all volunteers and don’t get paid to do this. Please do us the courtesy of reading our posts and any s2Member content to which we link before asking the same question we already answered.

OK I get that but…
The only way someone could join is by either purchasing a Buy Now product (which would mean they are or are going to be a free member if they are not already a Level 1 or 2 from purchasing the paid products), or by purchasing the product from the 1st sales page. The 2nd sale spage is an upsell and won’t be shown until they login as a.Level 1 user. I’m not advertising this as a membership, I’m making it a membership to more easily control the downloads. So the 1st sales page, and pages or posts that have Buy Now products is what I want in the search engines, not a membership options page. So why can’t I show the 1st sales page and the button makes that customer a Level 1 member?

Sorry I didn’t mean to ask a question already answered, but the way I’m trying to use S2member is a little different than just a straight membership, so I’m just trying to get expansion of details in my head. I understand setting the restrictions and custom capabilities on Buy Now’s product page. But somehow I have to show the sales page for the Buy Now products, which I would want for anyone to see, not just members. Then after purchase, the product page would be restricted to only those members that have purchased. In the case of a new person, when they purchase one of these Buy Now products, they need to become a Free Member. So is any of this possible?

Also, the way I read the Billing Modification, they are only good for Paypal Pro and at this time I don’t have that. I really didn’t want to go to Pro until I start making some money. So are there other alternatives to doing what I need to do?

Thanks for all the assistance and patience with me, I really do appreciate it.

In that case, you have created a Membership Options Page, haven’t you?

Because, as Pat said, you MUST have one. If you don’t have an MOP, s2Member will do nothing at all; that’s the way it works. If you don’t want to do that, s2Member is simply not for you.

Ok. You can create sales pages for the Buy Now forms/buttons anywhere you’d like. You can put links or widgets with ads to them or whatever on either the Membership Options Page or the Login Welcome Page. If you are using s2Member Pro you can create direct upsell pages using One-Time Offers.

The beautiful thing about s2Member shortcodes is you can use them just about anywhere and get as creative as you want.
