Changes in subscriptions and prices

Hi, I want to launch a new website with a yearly subscription. I expect to change the structure of the subscription to monthly after about half a year. I want to know what happens with:

  1. The Yearly subscribers that signed up the first half year… what happens when they come up for their renewal?
  2. Does there change/alter anything in the database when I change the subscription structure?
  3. Are there any other things I have to think off when thinking/implementing what I just mentioned above?

Tnx for your answer.

  1. That depends entirely on what options you give them in the Billing Modification Form that you allow them to use.
  2. No. Changes will be made to individuals’ accounts if and when they choose a different billing regime.
  3. The main thing I’d suggest you consider is how you are going to differentiate each group of subscribers. Whether you do it by roles or ccaps, you need to make sure that you keep annual subscribers separate from monthly subscribers.

Ok, tnx for your reply… and if I want to fase out the yearly subscribers… so after 19 months there should not be any Yearly subscriber anymore in the database… then I should you switch the plan from Yearly to Monthly (and automatically the Yearly go, after 12 months, to the Monthly, or should the being offered a Billing Modification like you suggested)?

The only way to be sure of phasing them out would be to cancel their membership. You can use a Billing Modification Form to encourage them to change their subscription, but you can’t force them to do so.

If you know you don’t want annual subscribers, then you should just offer a Buy Now membership for a year instead of a recurring annual subscription.
