Beginner Problems

Hey guys, I’m very new to S2member and I’m a regular user and NOT a programmer so any code references are above my skill level. I have followed everything that the video tutorials told me to do and I have successfully installed and gotten to the stage where I am inserting my own logo on the register/ login and reset password pages. The custom logo is perfect on the register and login pages but when I click the ‘reset password’ link it takes me to a page I haven’t seen before from my own website. One of those ‘odd pages’ that wordpress themes sometimes have but usually act as error pages. Regardless, its NOT the reset password’ page from S2member.

What am i doing wrong? Is there some setting i havent addressed that sends the reset password link to the S2 reset password page? It seems very overwhelming at this point. I just dont have the knowledge base to sort this out. i dont even know where to look. I have googled the problem but the people who have had the issie are all talking in code and i cannot do that. can anyone help? thank you

s2Member doesn’t have a reset password page, just as it doesn’t have a login page. In both cases it just uses the defaults provided by WordPress.

If you’d like someone to check, could you post the URL of the reset password page here? (You can leave out your domain name, if you want, because it’s not relevant here.)

it seems to do something different when i m logged in as admin or logged in as a normal user. it seems to bring up the account page. my custom logo shows up on th register page and the login page but it seems to be going to something connected to woo commerce for the password reset? its really odd? i have woocommerce installed. could woo commerce cause this?

Hey, Francis - Welcome to the community. I think that you answered the question obliquely - it sounds like the password reset page that you are getting is either provided by your theme or by another plugin like woo commerce. I don’t have an intimate knowledge of woo commerce, so can’t say if that’s the case or not.

Where to start with most problems like this is process of elimination. Disable ALL the plugins (including S2) then see what the ‘reset password’ link does. Now, add back in ONLY S2 and see what that behavior does. As you then continue to add in the other plugins, you’ll stumble across the one that is providing the ‘reset password’ page.

What you’ll find, in general, is that s2Member is really robust and plays nice with ALL well-coded themes, so when there is a burp, it’s almost always the theme or another plugin. S2 is pretty darn rock-solid in my experience.

I use the DIVI theme from Elegant themes almost exclusively now, and S2 plays really nice with that theme.

does it make any difference to the password reset if it is done with wordpress or woocommerce? will it work either way?

It will work either way.
