Allow existing users to switch from Paypal to Stripe

I would like my users to be able to switch their ongoing/recurring payment option from Paypal to Stripe (and vice versa).
Is this possible?

Users pay via Paypal, then get "User registration is currently not allowed."

In short, no. That would need significant custom coding.
