S2 Button code suddenly not working with PayPal

Not on either problem - can’t do normal registration because of the POST variables problem. There is even some issue with the registration link sent in emails and the ■■■■ “open registration” option. If you turn that off/disabled, they can’t register.

And naturally, encoding still doesn’t work.

It is all just taking too long. s2 is Too much for one person to support.

When we chose s2, we actually thought there was a whole team!
It’s a shame but we may be forced to rip it out - and piss off 93 clients.

Sid

Not that anyone is paying attention as affects the No Post variables issue

  • we ran the s2 server scanner and passed everything - even our memory setting is TWICE the recommended 64M (all sites are set to at least 128M).

We checked 23 sites.

2 days of looking, and can no reason (on the site side) for the issue.
No “misconfiguration” s2 errors.

Sid

Thankful to all who contributed to this conversation.

We noticed this problem about a week ago and were casting about for information until we found this discussion. Simply understanding the problem can be an important step in the solution process, so thank you for clarifying the issue.

It appears we are now waiting for Cristian to respond…

Did not work for me. I disabled encryption as suggested, but instead of the button showing the full offer details as it used to, I just get a generic PayPal page with incomplete details.

That is exactly my experience too. Any update to share please?

No, it affects Pro users too. Me sadly :frowning:

@Roger

Do you have a Pro account with PayPal? Or are you just using s2Member’s Pro forms with a free PayPal account? I have a Pro account with PayPal and do not have any problems (so far).

@clavaque Any progress on this?

I am also unable to use pro forms with paypal (no pro paypal, just free business) to be able to calculate taxes. It sends the user to PayPal to pay, the user logs in, accepts the charge, the system does not start a subscription, makes a collection or anything, just sends the user back to my site as if nothing happened.

Turning encryption on and off does not affect the issue. It still won’t work.

Can’t use plain PayPal buttons for subscriptions with tax calculation, they only offer tax calculation for one time purchases.

Can’t charge 21% VAT from non EU users. Can’t NOT charge 21% VAT for EU users.

Do we just give up on using PayPal, forever?

If @clavaque doesn’t know how to update the PayPal integration, then it does seem like s2’s PayPal days are over (unless you have a PayPal Pro account, for as long as that keeps working).

I certainly wouldn’t be waiting around for a fix if PayPal was no longer working for me, given the complete lack of updates on this issue.

I can’t find how to upgrade to PayPal payments pro either. The link goes to a page that does not exist anymore. Did they discontinue the product?

I just tried to switch my PayPal to Advanced but nothing seems to be different (I was forced to give them a customer service phone number and email and I received an email saying my account was “verified”, whatever that means). Yet, when I try to subscribe to my own site it does not work. The entire flow seems ok but then I am kicked back to my site without an account created or any amount charged or anything. I can even choose a payment method etc.

Why don’t you use the stripe?

My paypal also stopped working and I migrated to stripe.

I’m not going to waste time and sell just because paypal doesn’t work.

The problem is many people only want to subscribe via PayPal because they don’t trust giving their card information directly using our forms.

The fact PayPal doesn’t calculate tax on regular buttons is just ridiculous.

Are we able to use the product below?

PayPal is quite annoying, they have tons of similar products with slightly different names and this is very confusing.

And now, what will you do?

I believe that this problem will happen with all member area plugins.

Cristian needs to integrate more payment platforms.

Well, I have been losing subscriptions. I had plain buttons that were charging 21% from anybody. Only a handful subscribed and I had to deal with a few of them manually by editing their subscriptions as they were in the United States. I had to remove their tax and refund them individually etc.

Lots of work and I am pretty sure many did not bother to subscribe anyways because they would not want to pay that tax, which is not owed by them, after all.

Other than that, the regular buttons were fine. Not even the ones generated by PayPal without integration won’t calculate tax either.

Something is broken but I am clueless. I should check the logs, hang on

PayPal discontinued the PayPal Standard integration used by s2Member a long time and moved to PayPal Checkout. Most other membership plugins have been upgraded to the new platform but s2Member has not, and now it doesn’t work.

S2member is a fantastic plugin, there is no plugin as good as it. It works great!

It’s just missing more integrations and payment options, I know Cristian is the only one at this moment that supports it.

But still, he could do a bit more and make more money.

Even Cristian is losing money in not bringing news.

Paypal support is essential for any subscription plugin.

It’s a trusted brand and many people will only subscribe using PayPal. I’d think twice before subscribing to a small website if I had to give all my personal information and credit card number directly on a form. I know I passed a couple of on line purchases in the past due to the lack of PayPal support (now I can use virtual card numbers via Wise, but I didn’t have this service available back then).

As far as I remember regular buttons DO work. The only problem is they don’t allow for tax calculation depending on the customer’s billing location. If we could just have a solution for it. Can’t just tell people to click on a button according to their location as many will want to not pay tax and we’d be dealing with a huge mess after.

This issue was first reported over a month ago.

No fix. No updates. Nothing.

You can sell tax inclusive with buttons. Then the invoice includes taxes based on customer location. If your falling under MOSS anyhow things get super complicated so tax inclusive pricing works well.

If you have tax on a invoice outside you have to pay that tax even if it doesn’t apply. So just make sure invoices are correct.

And actually loads of countries now require taxes on digital products/membership sites without any threshold .

I am investigating the logs so I can send them privately to @clavaque. I should have done this much sooner but I was overwhelmed, sorry.

I am also seeing an old button code from 2020 shown up in the logs but that makes no sense.

*** Edit ***

Sent the logs. Let’s hope @clavaque finds something wrong we can fix ourselves.
